I read a whole heap of vendors are contributing to an open source protocol which improves the reliability of streaming / delivering video over the internet (including bad connections with packet loss).

It would be good to have this feature on vMix to send video to/from Wowza and Teradek and other platforms.

There is supposed to be a massive improvement when compared to RTMP

It's looks interesting, I don't know how hard is implementing this... Okay, we have a webm based vmix call, but for broadcast quality point-to-point video the SRT can be a good alternative...

So, +1!

https://www.ffmpeg.org/ says now they support SRT. From version April 20th, 2018, FFmpeg 4.0 "Wu".
- Haivision SRT protocol via libsrt

If FFMPEG supports it, then it should be possible to use in vMix????

Best Regards

I would like to opt in as well. SRT sounds too good to be true and major players stepped into it. Maybe the time is right to join the alliance and be ahead of Telestream/Wirecast once more.

is this anything to do with the rtmps that's coming to Facebook or a different thing (vmix is ready for rtmps so wondering if this is a version of that)

SRT has nothing to do witz RTMPS. SRT is a low latency transmission protokol.

Microsoft also announced SRT support for Azure Media Services:

https://azure.microsoft....018-welkom-in-amsterdam/

Quote:

At IBC we’re showing how Azure Media Services can help deliver UHD/4K HLG streams from the cloud. First, Media Excel’s HERO™on-premises encoders push an UHD/4K HEVC contribution feed over the open Internet using the open source low latency streaming protocol, SRT. This feed is received by Media Excel software encoders running in Azure, transcoded into a multiple bitrate HEVC 60 fps streams, and sent to Azure Media Services for dynamic packaging (DASH/HLS with CMAF) and encryption (PlayReady/Widevine/Fairplay). It’s then ready for delivery using Azure CDN or a CDN of your choice.
