The Blackmagic Studio Cameras and also the new Blackmagic Ursa Mini support tally lights and talkback over the SDI input.

At the moment only the ATEM Mixer supports that kind of talkback/tally functionality with those cameras.

Is there a chance to support that feature with Vmix? It would be the perfect solution for a professional studio production.

Patrick

@ Rinsky

I agree, and it would also be preferable if BMD would use industry standard protocols instead of 'proprietary' methods designed to work only with their hardware.
Prices are very attractive until you realize that you have to pretty much commit yourself to their 'stuff' in the entire 'chain of command' to get the full benefits of the hardware.
If it is at all possible to integrate some of these features into the vMix workflow, I'm all for it, but I somehow feel that won't be an 'easy' thing to do.

Just my thoughts,

Ice

+1. Tally can be great... I think the talkback is a harder thing...

I wouldn't mind buying an ATEM Studio Converter for talkback, since this function would be very hard to integrate into Vmix

But I don't want to use the ATEM Mixer just to use the tally function of the Studio/Ursa mini cameras.

Tally over SDI would be a great bonus. I think the Tricasters already support it, so it would make sense to integrate it into Vmix too.

+1 Would be great, if it's not required to buy all of their hardware and work in their ecosystem :)

Yes 100% agree with this. Tally and also CCU.

Well, it looks like there is a chance to make this possible:

https://forum.blackmagicdesign.c...opic.php?f=2&t=28495

CCU and tally compatibility with BM Studio Cameras and Ursa Mini is something that makes me wanna buy an ATEM switcher,

The possibilty to include CCU control over SDI for BM cameras in a future Vmix release would save me a couple of bucks. So, is there any chance that you're trying to include it, Martin?

Regards, Patrick

https://github.com/tomto.../Blackmagic-Decklink-CCU

but need 2 decklink/duo or the new 4k versions for any camera, you need input and output simultaneous

Hi,

you don't need 2 Decklink. You have only to add the VANC-Data to the SDI-PGM-Out, like my code (BM Decklink CCU). And then distribute this signal to the SDI-In of the BM camera.

Cheers
Thomas

I think he meant one connection to bring the signal from the camera to the Vmix PC and to one bring the PGM out (including VANC-Data) to the camera, which sums up to 2 connections and on 4 connections (in/out1, in/out2) older Decklink cards (the ones where you can't use connections independently)

Black Magic Arduino

Here is what you need to do all of this stuff, from what I see this is a VANC insertion card.

I'm not a software developer, I want make good video production.

Is someone already put this Arduino thing and vMIX work together?

why mess around with the Arduino and Sheild when the Blackmagic SDK/API for SDI out of the various decklink cards has examples for VANC insertion, so it may be possible for vmix to simply insert the Tally and other data in the External SDI out

For director to camera talkback you could embed a buss onto
sdi ch15/16 with an external embedder. I think that's how
BMD works. Even better if vMix would access these sdi channels.

Slightly off topic, here's another great Aussie developer,
mostly ATEM stuff but he's probably open to suggestions.
