When creating overlays to make Picture-in-pictures, it is very easy to change their size, position, etc.
However the one feature that is missing is the ability to crop the edges of the PIP's to cut out certain areas or change their shape.
This may appear a minor thing but is very useful.

Hi Pesi

if you crop your input (or a virtual copy) then you cam PiP it cropped.

You can also use luma keying to shape it the way you like.

In the Overlay Settings window, under Type: Picture in picture, we have Zoom and Pan settings. This means that one can change the size of the PIP box, which is always in the aspect ratio of the actual input (e.g. 16:9). Sometimes though I have found the need to crop the box to make it narrower in its horizontal size, to eliminate some useless parts of the input image - e.g. if the PIP is of a talking head, the background on either side of the head needs to be removed while maintaining the correct aspect ratio of the PIP image.

But Guillaume I think I see what you are saying - create a new virtual input named PIP made with Multi-view without using the Overlay window at all?

pesi, seems Guilla got you on the right track :)

I guess you are using the Overlays for their transition effects. Otherwise, or alternatively, you can play with a set of MultiView Inputs. For example, one where layer 4 is none, and one with layers 1-3 the same and 4 your "talking head". Then Transition between these.

Good luck!
