Hi!

Anyone used Magewell ProCapture QUAD HDMi -card ? I have one connected through Thunderbolt and it is working ok
but how can I change output resolution ?

Magewell Capture Express shows that input is 1280x720p50 (as it is set in camera) but output is 1920x1080. And can't find how to change that although there is instructions in manual I don't see that options in CaptureExpress.

And I set camera input in vMix to 720p so is it really that in the end ?

The "output" from a Magewell Pro Capture card is whatever the host software (eg. vMix or Capture Express) is requesting at that point in time. It is a dynamic value, not something which can be pre-set. In Capture Express, for example, if you set the Video Size (ie. the pixel resolution for recording) to 1280x720, then that is what the card will output.

If you're seeing a value of 1920x1080 as the output, that suggests that the Video Size is set to 1920x1080. Magewell cards will scale the video (in hardware) to whatever size is requested. Try it with a few of the other Video Sizes that Capture Express supports and you'll see what I mean.

I'm having a similar predicament. My production is set to 720p29,9, and when I add my camera inputs in vMix I select 720p as well, but regardless of what I select, the camera is added at 1080p.

Anyone have any ideas??

When using Magewell capture cards, vMix will always use the native camera resolution when adding it as an input.
This ensures the best possible quality, as vMix has a higher quality scaler built in if needed.

Martin, thanks for the reply, I was hoping you could explain something:

I was under the impression that using the capture card's scaling would reduce potential load on my CPU and GPU. Is it not a significant enough improvement to worry about?

In other words: What's the performance impact of scaling in vMix vs. scaling internally in the Magewell card?

The performance difference would be negligible as scaling is one thing GPUs do extremely quickly!
CPU is not used at all for scaling.
