The ability to pause a recording would mean less or no post production in some of my recordings.

This would be Vmix heaven for me.
thanks 1 user thanked Duff TV for this useful post.

Recently had a request for this for American Football where they wanted to make a recording of the game but not have to record the wait time between plays.

+1, would be even better if we could pause the recordings in vmix 20 individually. This way you can record one without pauses, the other one entirely.

good ideas are seldom new, as a Forum search reveals. Searching first is always a useful practice ;)

From 2014: Recording with Pause
From 2013: (amongst other features wished for)

I do not know for how long a pause is needed, but universal tokens that could be put on during recording - this would be an add-on because Now, in case of need, you need to write down the time code on the sheet if you need to install after the recording - it's very inconvenient. For example, Edius puts a marker in the video on which you can quickly and easily make edits to the video ...

Sometimes, there is a holdup in proceedings, and we are Live Streaming as well as recording. While we are waiting on the proceedings, the Live Viewers still need to be live, but it would be good if recordings can pause, so that when used later, the waiting during the holdup in proceedings is not in the recording. I could stop and start recording, but then the filename changes, and so files need to be manually identified and merged later, which takes a lot of work.

I understand why you want to pause the recording. But stopping isn't that bad either. You would have a file you can work on in the meantime. Consider your system dies while in pause. If the file is corrupt after reboot you have nothing. If you stop you would still have your recordings.
