Hi

for those of you who look for very lightweight solutions for vMix, here's Next: a computer that is also an up to 4K field monitor/recorder, with 4 inputs/outputs, runs windows, and much more... Not cheap but not over-priced either...

@ DWAM

I wonder if this is a possible "multipurpose" solution for NDI camera connectivity???

Yes pricey but certainly looks like an option:

- 6.7 HD Display camera monitor
- 4K recorder
- Multiple connectivity options (SDI/HDMI/Composite as per Intensity Pro 4K)
- Ethernet port (it's a i5 computer)

Sure it is ! Aswell as an NDI source or destination (at the same time allowing your cameraman to send signal to vMix but also to monitor PGM)

Also I was thinking it could be a perfect auxilliary machine for main vMix to extend inputs or outputs number, be an external (multi)recorder, serve as an external encoder, allow remote guests via skype or WebRTC and so on...

So yeah it is a multipurpose solution but not only for NDI.

There is also an i7 version. The only cons I see is no GTX.

I'm still not clear on all the I/O options and I'm wondering if HEAT might be an issue on such a small form factor if you try and do too much with it, but definitely a possible upgrade (multipurpose) competitor to Bird-Dog.

Basically it's possible to choose any PCIe capture card (considering the inner dimensions). They provide by default a choice for 4K BMD cards (due to their main activity, CineMartin being a spanish company specialized in professional codecs) but I don't see why it wouldn't fit with a BMD Duo2 for example or even a Magewell.
I will certainly contact them in Barcelona to ask.

However you can buy this PC with no capture card at all and add one afterwards (as stated in the BUY page, right column)

I'm very confident on this. For 2 reasons :

- the first use is to be a 4K recorder and multi-transcoder. It's high on ressources and it was designed for this
- the choice of industrial components for the hardware design

A Thunderbolt port would likely make it the "cat's meow" as then you could add an expansion box with a NVidia GTX GPU, and truly use it as a small form factor production unit, but as it is, I would mainly look at it as a substitute for a number of current "add-ons" that many "shooters" have or want, like a SmallHD monitor and/or a Ninja recorder and soon the BirdDog...
I am kind of surprised it hasn't made much noise in the past couple of years in the channels that I monitor on this sort of stuff, your post, Guillaume, is the first I've ever heard of it.

Yes Greg a Thunderbolt port would be like a cherry on the cake... However I'm pretty sure that even without nVidia it could be useful in many ways with vMix and not only as a regular field device, although this makes it some sort of a deluxe swiss army knife for video production.

I don't understand either why they don't communicate more on this product, I happen to have found it by chance some months ago while looking for something else on their website. But I understood they build the computers on demand and maybe they can't provide much units at the same time....

Interesting, but the highest end CPU available is an i7 4650U!? All the other choices are also 2 core processors.

It makes no sense to do such a comparison... Can you turn your Skull i7 into a all-in-one device for on field 4K or multi HD monitoring/recording attached to your camera? Can you only plug a camera into your skull without using an external device ?

If you want to compare things, check for example the only device I know which allows what's written above
https://www.bhphotovideo...7q_raw_oled_monitor.html

$1795... But hey! It's not even a computer! Can you install vMix on it? Nope...

I can turn my tiny pc i7 5500u, 7'' touchscreen, inogeni 4k - usb into something similar for about $900-$1100 (estimating a custom case build at $100-$300).

Yes me too... But if you were to sell it and to make a living on selling it, how much would it cost ?

What if I want you to build me one with 3 outputs (2 SDI and 1 HDMI) ?
What if I want you to build me one with 4 HD inputs ?
What if I want SDI or HDMI loopback ?
What if I want 2 ethernet plugs?
What if I want V-Mount?
Can you garanty your solution allows 4K 4:4:4 recording for more than 8 minutes without drops?

We're not talking about prototyping a DIY solution considering the minimal specs and a single use case. I see what you mean and I partially agree but if you consider ALL the features (not only 1 or 2, the easiest ones), if you consider the industrial built, the flexibility offered for multiple professional needs, you must admit that your proposal is not an alternative to Next.

But if you feel like you can build a mini system that would at least offer a bird-dog alternative, why don't you jump into it? There is a market for SDI2NDI or HDMI2NDI devices...

DWAM, I get your point from the start.

But as I understand kind of "bonus" charge for things like the chassis and packing all things together I feel its overpriced to call 1350 eur for components that are $300-400. You really believe motherboards they use are designed by them? Or 95 eur for installing Windows without licence service? Come on.

All of the things you mentioned can be DYI, just depend on the BM card.
