I think FMLE always did this:

I would like to have the option to save the live encoded video from a livestream without enabling the record option, just save the data while streaming, same bitrate, same frame drops if there are any. Shouldn't be a problem CPUwise because it doesn't have to do any extra encoding.

Regards,
Patrick

That is what the recorder is actually doing, but you can chose the codec, bit rate etc and therefore the file format. FMLE records only in one. And it imposes additional strain on CPU resources.

Hm? I don't understand what you're saying, please explain it in more detail.

And I forgot to mention that I want ffmpeg to record the stream.

Hi Rinsky,
Any internal recording option will cause some overhead. The built in Recorder gives you the widest choice of codecs/framerates/bitrates etc. It gives you have a choice of using ffmpeg. Unless you use an external recorder or computer, recording will always increase overhead.

It is unclear why you don't want to use the internal recording option, so if I have missed anything, let me know.

I think we talk past each other. I want to record internally, but with my ffmpeg streaming settings.

Last saturday I forgot to click the record button, so the only complete program recording was the low bitrate Facebook Live stream.

I want that it also records my livestream on my local machine, when I start a livestream (same bitrate and same settings as the livestream).

The record option is something I want to use as a backup, if there are any frame drops in the livestream or if I also want to record it with different settings.

Setup a keyboard shortcut that starts the stream and the recorder at the same time.

That's of course kind of a solution, but still...what I'm requesting is that it also saves the livestream on the local hard drive, just like Flash Media Live Encoder and Livestream Procaster does, as another backup.

Would that be possible?

I believe that Rinsky is asking for a copy of the stream to be saved as a file to a local drive. In addition to the software he mentioned, Wirecast and OBS offer this feature. If the Record and Stream encoding settings are the same, the software will save a copy to your drive and not use double the CPU power for what is essentially the same task. Often, there is an option to lock your recording settings to your stream settings in software, eliminating any discrepancy in the event that you want this synchronization to be general policy.

FFMPEG can streaming and saving simultaneously (and only encoding once).
I don't know or vMix is supporting this.

+1 If it doesn't effect performance.

+1 (have requested this before).

I dont't understand why this is not supported as ffmpeg provides the functionality directly. Saving what you stream should be included.

A really big +1!
This option works with Wirecast, OBS... It can be a big help, if this will be available in vmix...

+1, might be handy to use as a proxy in premiere for editing.

(still want the option to also do a "normal" vMix recording, e.g. higher bitrate/other codec)

+1, also make it able to only record the ffmpeg output, this also would be a nice way to use the streaming setup to generate a small file that can be delivered to a client directly after the production, while remaining to be able to also record in a high quality editing format.
I have lots of jobs at which I need a recording like this so the client can watch it and let us know what to edit out or correct.
