I started vMix (v17.0.0.77) and did a Preset New with the same resolution and fps (720p50) that was in use.

Then I did another New to 1080p50 and vMix told me Optimus was detected, asked me to restart vMix and closed vMix when I clicked OK. (Why not just restart, as when a Setting is changed?)

In other words, it seems the detection is not always done, just in some cases...

I would also love to know some details about what the Optimus bug meant, and what the fix fixes.

Thanks.

It's a bug in Windows 10 to do with Optimus graphics when the following is true:

1. More than one display is connected
2. Screen resolution in windows is equal to or less than the vMix resolution
3. Windows 10 is installed

When these three are true an error occurs when starting Direct3D, vMix detects this error and
adds a workaround then next time vMix starts up. It can't restart vMix automatically due to how the bug works.

Regards,

Martin

OK. But in my case I had no external monitors attached (only the laptop display). And vMix started, presumably, with the settings from the last time I used vMix (ie 1280x720), which was lower than my Windows 10 resolution (1920x1080).

It is curious that the bug shows up for one display only (is there a virtual display driver perhaps installed?)
But it is correct that using a resolution in vMix equal to or greater than Windows 10 will show the bug. (so using 1920x1080 in vMix will require optimus workaround, 1280x720 will not)

I apologize for reading "Screen resolution in windows is equal to or less than the vMix resolution" the other way around.

I might have a virtual display installed, is there any way I can check?
The device manager lists Intel HD graphics and Nvidia GeForce, could that be the reason?
